If you have recently undergone surgery on your face, you might understandably be worried about scarring. There are a number of methods that might help to minimize this problem, and BOTOX is one of them! Just how can BOTOX help with facial scars? This blog post explains some exciting information.

BOTOX and Facial Scars: Comparing Results

A study published in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery outlined how doctors set out to determine whether BOTOX could help with scarring after facial surgery. The study had 16 participants, most of whom had recently undergone a procedure to alter a disfiguring birthmark.

The doctors injected half of each scar with BOTOX and the other half with a saline solution. At a four-month follow-up, independent plastic surgeons evaluated each scar. The sides that had been treated with BOTOX consistently scored higher than those that had been treated with saline. In other words, they had a better appearance! BOTOX reduced both the bumpiness and the width of the scars.

How Does BOTOX Reduce Facial Scars?

The reason behind BOTOX’s effectiveness for reducing facial scars is pretty easy to understand. Scars are more likely to form in areas where the skin is moving a lot; the movement can disrupt the body’s healing process. BOTOX limits movements of the facial muscles, which can help wounds to repair themselves in the most efficient way while leaving less scar tissue behind.

Who Can Benefit from BOTOX for Facial Scars?

It is important to keep in mind that BOTOX may not be a suitable treatment for all facial scars. For example, it might not be effective for older scars. Rather, it is best for fresher wounds that are still healing. If you have older scars, you might need to consult a skincare expert about ways to reduce their appearance.

Additionally, it may only work on certain areas of the face. For example, it might be recommended for forehead scars because the forehead is constantly moving.

BOTOX can be useful for a lot of purposes — including reducing the appearance of post-surgical facial scars! Talk to a qualified medical professional to find out how it might be able to help you.
