Juvederm is a popular dermal filler that helps to rejuvenate the skin, reduce wrinkles, and enhance facial contours. To achieve the best possible results and ensure comfort, proper aftercare is essential. What should you do during the days and weeks following your treatment? This blog post provides some helpful tips.

How Does Juvederm Work?

Juvederm is a hyaluronic acid-based filler that provides volume and hydration to the skin. It is commonly used to treat areas such as the lips, cheeks, nasolabial folds (smile lines), and marionette lines (lines from the lips to the chin). The treatment is minimally invasive and typically provides results that last for several months.

Immediate Aftercare

Right after your Juvederm treatment, it is important to follow these steps:

  • Apply ice. Using ice packs can reduce swelling and discomfort. Wrap the ice packs in a cloth and apply them gently to the treated areas for about 15 minutes every hour during the first 24 hours.
  • Avoid strenuous activities. Refrain from engaging in strenuous physical activities for at least 24 hours post-treatment. This helps minimize swelling and allows the filler to settle properly. Some experts recommend avoiding strenuous activity for up to a week.
  • Keep the treated area clean. Ensure the treated areas remain clean and avoid touching them excessively. Cleanse your face gently using a mild cleanser to prevent irritation and infection.
  • Avoid alcohol and smoking. Alcohol and smoking can exacerbate swelling and interfere with the healing process. It is advisable to avoid both for at least 48 hours post-treatment.
  • Skip makeup. Avoid applying makeup to the treated areas for at least 24 hours to prevent irritation and infection.
  • Sleep with your head elevated. This can reduce swelling and help the filler to settle evenly.

General Aftercare Tips

In addition to the immediate aftercare steps, consider these long-term tips to maintain your Juvederm results:

  • Stay hydrated. Hyaluronic acid is a hydrating agent, so drinking plenty of water will help maintain the plumpness and hydration of your skin.
  • Minimize sun exposure. Use sunscreen with at least SPF 30 daily to protect your skin from harmful UV rays and prevent premature aging.
  • Keep an eye out for side effects. While Juvederm is generally safe, it is important to monitor for any adverse side effects such as excessive swelling, redness, or lumps. Contact your healthcare provider if you experience any concerning symptoms.

Proper aftercare is crucial to achieving the best results from your Juvederm injections. Ask your care provider if you have any questions on how to care for your skin after your treatment.
