When considering how to eliminate fine lines and wrinkles, you might automatically assume BOTOX is the ideal method of treatment. However, there is also the option of choosing dermal fillers. What is the difference between the two? This is a common question many people ask. Without the help of a knowledgeable professional, it can be difficult to get the answers you need to make a well-informed decision. Take a few moments to learn how these two aesthetic services differ before determining which one is right for you.

Freeze vs. Fill: The Difference Between BOTOX and Dermal Fillers

How you choose to address your facial imperfections (i.e., fine lines and wrinkles) is ultimately up to you, but you should know there are a few different options your skincare expert will go over during your consultation.

The first is BOTOX. As an FDA-approved substance commonly known as botulinum toxin, it is frequently used to treat and prevent fine lines and wrinkles. The injectable solution is administered by a licensed professional who targets a particular area of the face (i.e., crow’s feet, glabellar lines, frown lines, etc.), allowing the BOTOX to temporarily freeze nearby facial muscles.

As a result, you will not develop newer or deeper lines because the muscles will not contract when smiling, laughing, or even frowning.

The second is dermal fillers. Also known as facial fillers, one of the most commonly used solutions is Juvéderm. Unlike BOTOX, which freezes muscles, dermal fillers help to fill in areas of the face that are sunken or sagging.

Since you begin to lose collagen as you grow older, the use of these fillers helps to stimulate new collagen so that facial features appear supple and plump, creating a more youthful appearance.

How to Choose Which One is Right For You

Although you may now know the difference between BOTOX and dermal fillers, you may not yet know which one you should choose when preparing to undergo treatment. To help, here are a few things to consider:

  • If you have wrinkles that only appear when making facial movements, BOTOX will likely be a better option.
  • If you notice fine lines or sunken areas of your face that are static, dermal fillers will allow for better results.
  • Both are versatile in their ability to address facial imperfections, but if you have scarring you would like to conceal, it’s best to choose dermal fillers.
  • Depending on your preferences, BOTOX results can last 3-4 months, while dermal fillers can last up to a year.

Trust that no matter which option you choose – BOTOX or dermal fillers – you will be pleased with the results. Talking to a trusted skincare expert will help you better determine your goals and which solution is right for you.
